Financial Adviser Exam

FA Exam is a professional accreditation exam for financial advisers in Australia. It is developed and administered by ACER on behalf of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

The exam assesses whether advisers have the legal, regulatory, ethical and professional knowledge required to provide personal financial advice to clients.

Registration

Quick reference

FA Exam is an online test taken on your own computer in a suitable location with internet access. This process is known as remote proctoring.

There are 4 test windows per year.

Test takers should ensure they meet the minimum technical requirements for sitting via remote proctoring.

To register for FA Exam, create a new ACER account if this is your first sitting, or log into your existing account if you already have one. Once you've completed the necessary personal details, select the test cycle and complete your payment through the ASIC payment portal to confirm your registration.

The fee to sit FA Exam is $1500 per sitting, paid to ASIC at the time of your registration.

Test format

FA Exam is a computer-based assessment of at least 70 multiple-choice questions split equally across three domains of knowledge and skills. The exam allows you to demonstrate professional reasoning and the application of that knowledge to retail client financial advice scenarios.
