Reasonable adjustments

Adjustment requestsHow to submit a requestSupporting documentation

If you have a disability or other health-related or educational need that might interfere with your ability to sit the test in a standard manner, you should apply for a reasonable adjustment as soon as possible after you have completed your registration.

Conditions may include but are not limited to:

  • Physical disability
  • Mobility impairment
  • Vision or hearing impairment
  • Learning disability
  • Neurological conditions
  • Neurodiversity (e.g. autism spectrum, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
  • Long-term medical condition (e.g. diabetes, epilepsy)
  • Mental health conditions

Reasonable adjustments do not carry over between exam cycles. You must submit a new application with each cycle registration.

Adjustment requests

For psychometric reasons, there is no possibility of reviewing or giving special consideration to test results, such as adjusting results for any perceived or actual disadvantage; or whether the actual or perceived disadvantage arises from any incident on the sitting day or any wanted adjustment to sitting conditions.

Consequently, it is important that any such adjustment be applied for in accordance with ACER's reasonable adjustments procedure. This will ensure such adjustments are made in advance of sitting.

How to submit a request

All applications must be submitted by the close of registrations.

  1. Log into your ACER account.
  2. Complete the application form available on the Reasonable adjustments page. Ensure that all sections of the form are completed. Sections B, C, D, E and F must be completed by a registered health practitioner. Please note, the requirements for this documentation detailed below.
  3. Upload the completed form via file upload function of the Reasonable adjustments page in your candidate account before the close of registrations. Include any supporting documentation required.
  4. After your application has been assessed by ACER, your outcome will be communicated via email and your candidate account.

If your application is incomplete, you will experience a delay receiving an outcome, as ACER will need to contact you for additional information. All required information must be provided before the deadline for the relevant exam cycle.

Supporting documentation requirements

You may be required to submit documentation in addition to the application form. This documentation must:

  • Be issued by a registered medical or health practitioner on official letterhead

  • Include the practitioner’s name, title, registration number, contact details, signature and date

  • Not be prepared by a practitioner who is related to the test taker

  • Describe how the disability or health condition affects your ability to sit the exam under standard conditions

  • Clearly recommend the reasonable adjustment(s) that the health practitioner believes are required

  • Include details of the diagnosis, including date and most recent evaluation

  • Include the impact of any medication or treatment, if relevant.

  • Educational psychologist reports for learning difficulties must be no more than 3 years old, unless accompanied by a recent letter confirming ongoing applicability
